The Sixth Extinction

Character(s): Gabriel "Sylar" Gray and Claire Bennet
Summary: Building 26 is never shut down. No one convinces the president that it's best to just drop the matter of evolved humans, and Danko is given cart blanche to deal with the super-powered threat as he sees fit. In the next century the Evolved are hunted to the brink of extinction, either out-right exterminated, or imprisoned and exploited for their ability. The number of specials used in this way grows fewer and fewer as time and mishaps progress, but one type is still coveted above all. Exterminating a regenerator is exceedingly difficult, anyway...
Status: In progress/PRIVATE

"Don't you ever try? Watch the lightvision or pay attention to the holocasts. It's how I stay in touch." He offered, smile a but because she almost put 'with it' in quotes. "And for goodness sake," Claire frowned at him. "Get a better wardrobe."
Dec. 2nd, 2009 01:09 am (UTC)
"Hm?" he looked down at what he was wearing, still the clothing that he'd thought would be the most like Peter, even though he pobably wasn't even close. "Oh, these don't usually go together." He even turned and began rummaging through the drawers, looking for something slim fitting and dark. He still didn't experiment much with colour. Blue, sometimes. Hunter green. Dark autumns, but monochrome still ruled his closet. "And I keep up on current events. I just don't... fit."
Dec. 2nd, 2009 01:54 am (UTC)
"Ha ha ha! That's because you were made in the nineteen seventies!" Claire busted out laughing. "I don't fit in either, but I play the part well enough that nobody notices." Except when she accidentally stepped in front of a cop cruiser and miraculously survived. She had gotten careless. "You wear a little more color and show that handsome smile..."

What was she saying?!

"I've lost my mind." Claire said to herself before turning to look at the brunette. "I really don't care what you do. How about we just get me looking not disgusting we can go back to ignoring each other's existance. It's worked thus far, if it ain't broke don't fix it."

He turned ad looked at her like she'd lost her mind when she called his smile handsome, but when she took it back and continued on his expression darkened. "It is broken," he challenged, pulling off the first shirt and tugging a black tank top on in its place. "Christ, would it be so utterly horrific if you treated me with a shred of civility?" The intuitive glared as he straightened the hem of the shirt a bit roughly and grasped a pair of what had become of yoga pants from the drawer. He tore his eyes away just after, pacing past her to the bathroom to finish changing.

"Civility?" Claire scoffed. "Civility?! Don't talk to me about civility." She found her feet and surprisingly enough, while hanging on to the wall or door frame, followed the brunette on wobbly legs.

"This is the same guy who took off the top of my skull and then talked to me about it while he poked around my brain!? FUCK YOU!" She seethed, Claire never being the one to swear often or harshly, but Sylar having a great ability to just pull the vulgarity out of her. "You don't even deserve the 'civility' I'm showing you now. I don't fucking care if you just pulled me out of hell or that you've looked out for me thus far! You're a fucking bastard with no soul who will eventually, whenever it happens, die unloved and forgotten!"
Dec. 2nd, 2009 05:43 am (UTC)
He'd just pulled up the pants as she wobbled around the door frame and turned to glare at her with eyes just as lighted and livid as hers, being shouted at like this. "That was more than a century ago! An entire life time! And I wouldn't have fucking been here to get you out of Shenoy if I hadn't. No one would have helped you, Claire, because there's no one else left! All your noble heroes are mouldering in their graves, and you're hellbent on holding grudges?!"
Dec. 2nd, 2009 05:49 am (UTC)
"Against you!" Claire bit. "I hold a grudge against you! If you never tried to kill me, I wouldn't be alone! Do the math! Peter would still be alive and you would be rotting!"
Dec. 2nd, 2009 05:55 am (UTC)
"How am I responsible for what Aurthur did to him?!" Sylar demanded, incredulous. "How does my survival have anything to do with that? In point of fact, I kept your uncle from getting himself killed then! Your granddad had no qualms about murdering his sons."
Dec. 2nd, 2009 06:05 am (UTC)
"We would have met later, a lot later. If you hadn't tried to kill me, Hiro never would have come back... none of those gears would have been set in motion!" This was something the blond had thought of a long time ago. She honestly didn't blame him anymore, but he'd just hit a nerve with her. "You were a catalyst, Sylar! You fucked all of our lives up! Who are you to ask for my forgiveness?!"
Dec. 2nd, 2009 06:17 am (UTC)
His face went red in an instant and his ears filled with a deafening roar, blood pounding hot and fast as she heaped everything on him.

"'I fu-...'?!" he lunged forward, grabbing her frail, knobby shoulders and spun her quickly, pinning her up against the bathroom door. "Did your heartless, son-of-a-bitch father ever tell you why I was so hellbent on hunting you?! Did he ever explain the reason why I wasn't already six-feet under weeks before Homecoming?! Did he?!"

The brunette was so angry he was shaking. He was gripping her so hard there were bruises already forming beneath his hands and he didn't know it but one of the bones in his right had had broke. "Did he ever admit to you, his precious Claire-bear, that he saved my miserable life?"
Dec. 2nd, 2009 06:33 am (UTC)
Claire, who for some reason was feeling this pain, whimpered when she was struck against the door and winced as she felt her shoulder crack.

"If you're talking about how Elle shot you down off your pathetic excuse for an escape?" The blond hissed through her clenched teeth. "Yeah, I knew about that. I also know how you fucked Elle and then killed her." She tilted her head so that she could catch the brunette's face out of the corner of her eye.

"A monster reared by your family," he shoved against her roughly. "Taught to hate, pushed to kill, even when I didn't want to, even when I tried to stop! Noah, Aurthur, Angela, Peter, you.

"Every one of you had the chance to shoot me down, lock me up, or God-forbid help me believe I could turn my life around! All you ever did was remind me of what a lost cause I was, so don't fucking belittle me for trying to save the world this pain with the same sole solution any of the rest of you could come up with!"
Dec. 2nd, 2009 06:55 am (UTC)
"I had nothing to do with your stupid life problems!" Claire cried, not out of fear, but pain. It seemed that with the two years of treatment, her ability had weakened for the time being. This freaking hurt. "What the hell did I ever do to deserve what you did to me? You used me against my family, but I never did anything to earn your hatred or wrath!"
Dec. 2nd, 2009 07:13 am (UTC)
"You?? Y-!..." Threw cold water on him in this moment, for one thing, but that had nothing to do with the past. That just deflated him somewhat in the now. He was still for a few heavy heartbeats, his mind back in years long gone. She had done nothing, save be who she was, immortal, and a Bennet. He sighed, angrily still, but his hands loosened slightly.

"You had something that I needed. You had the simple misfortune of being born as you were and raised by the man who unleashed me. I know what I did to you was evil, Claire. I just wish that you'd understand..." The brunette closed his eyes and leaned his forehead down against the crown of hers, trying to find that always-elusive calm, that ephemeral rationality.
Dec. 2nd, 2009 07:19 am (UTC)
"So what gives you the right to ask me to be civil when you didn't offer me the same courtesy?" Her voice was now much much softer, her eyes closed and tears of pain streaming down her face even as her bones healed and bruises disappeared. It didn't help that he was so intimately close to her. She was uncomfortable and felt like bugs were moving underneath her skin.

"Please let me go." Claire finally asked, pushing at his forehead with her own in an almost strange sort of nuzzle.
