Neverworld

Gabriel Gray paced through the dreary streets of Brooklyn, a news paper held over his head to keep the light drizzle from soaking into his grey wool suit.  His long features were set in a grim line, angered by the recent argument with his mother, still harping on him after all these years for maintaining his father's watch shop, rather than pursuing an academic career.  She didn't appreciate that what he did kept a roof over her head and food on her table, but even that aside, the shop was the only refuge Gabriel had from the pressing masses of humanity, of which he felt no part.

At last, he was safe inside the dark, quiet shop, away from the hustle of hundreds of bustled skirts and tail-coated men, just the quiet ticking of more than two dozen clocks and the soft glow of the gas lamps burning  in their sconces.  He hung up his hat and coat, cleaned the fog from his glasses, and reluctantly turned about the 'open' sign propped in the window.  Hopefully no one would have need of a repair or a purchase today.  Honestly he just wanted the time alone with his current projects.  Some time with that Baroque fob watch he'd been tinkering with for the last seven years of his life would do him a world of wonder.

She'd been watching him for days now, becoming a silent observer of his habits and the way Gabriel carried himself. Angela Petrelli had many problems, most of which focused on the young men in her life. She felt the burning desire to nurture them and bring them to their full potential but, at the same time, the eldest Petrelli was haunted by their presence. They represented something she could no longer have in life, or death. For that, she resented them, but only the tiniest bit.

Parallel to that resentment was admiration and adoration. Whenever Angela saw someone like Gabriel Gray, a young man clearly tormented by his own position in the world, she couldn't help but take a second look. Never did she act on those nurturing desires, because Angela had two very important boys at home....though, this one...he was different. She could see it, smell it, feel it, sense it.

On top of the obvious sharp, attractive features that Gabriel had been gifted with, the quiet man strode with an air of confidence which only a Petrelli would possess. He was undoubtedly special for his own reasons, alluring, desperate for a purpose. And so she decided that he should, undoubtedly, be in their family. That crazy wench Virginia didn't deserve him, especially after their latest argument - which Angela had witnessed from a front-row seat outside Virginia's window.

Angela had utilized her swift supernatural speed and arrived at the shop before Gabriel, snooping around. When he came in and began the tedious process of opening the shop for business, Angela strode out of the back room in her neat clothing and perfectly styled hair. What should she say...? How does one tell a complete stranger that their life is about to change? Might as well start with proper introductions.

"Gabriel. My name is Angela Petrelli, I hope you don't mind that I let myself in."

The brunette startled only slightly. He stood perfectly straight, glaring daggers in his anger, temper still afire from the argument, and now fanned again as this matronly woman intruded on his solitude.

It would have been one thing if she'd just come in, but she'd already been here! And in the back, the private space where he even kept a narrow bed for those miserable evenings when he needed desperately to escape his overbearing mother and have somewhere alone.

"Pardon me, Ma'am, if I do. And I've a mind to call the police!" he was certain she was a thief, hoping to get out of being caught red handed by making excuses for herself.

"Not necessary," she said calmly, holding up a gloved hand. Angela took a few steps closer but left a good gap between them, not wanting to frighten the young man. "I've come to offer you something unimaginable, Gabriel. Something you'd be a fool to pass up."

"Solicitation is about as welcome as thievery in my shop, Ma'am," Gabriel walked forward, still at his full height. He pulled his glasses from his face, trying to use his hawk-eye glare to intimidate her. "I suggest you leave whatever you may have intended to take on the counter there, and I will let you walk out the front door with out incident."

"I am no thief." She began to undo the buttons of her jacket. "Search me if you must. I want nothing more than your attention for a minute, dear boy. Can you give me that, with all of this time lurking?" Angela asked, motioning around his shop where clocks tick-tocked away excitedly.

Gabriel frowned, a little unsettled by how very over confident this woman was. While he was usually ignored, his own confidence was generally enough to shake those who warranted his angered attention. This woman seemed immune.

He tucked his glasses in the pocket of his waistcoat, "What do you want with me then?"

Her fingers ached to reach out and touch his jaw, his chin and neck, like she did with her own boys. "I want you to join my family. We're very special, very powerful. I want to help you reach your full potential." Angela took a step closer. "I know that you love your mother. I understand. But you're meant for more than this. You can be grand. You can be powerful. You can have brothers...and I will never judge you, Gabriel. I'll only help you grow and blossom."

His brows furrowed softly. This was definitely not the kind of proposal he was expecting to hear from her. Not in the least. "I-... I'm sorry? I don't think I understand. I'm a little old for adoption, don't you think?"

Out of habit though, he took her coat once it was off. Ever the gentleman, and she had him sufficiently curious that he'd decided to hear a bit more of this madness. It was strange after all. He was hardly a child, he was a young man, with his own business and an aging mother ever badgering him to pursue a better career and find himself a wife.

"Not adoption, Gabriel. You won't be treated as a child. You will be treated as an adult coming into his rite. As you should be already." She clasped her hands in front of herself after the coat was removed. "You're a sweet boy, Gabriel. I can tell. But you have a fierce ambition that some can sense from a mile away..."

Gabriel looked down, hands finding his way to his pockets, posture deteriorating slightly. "You sound like my mother. My actual mother. She is forever pushing me to leave this shop because I'm 'destined for greater things'," he shook his head slightly. "I'm not though, and I can't. This place is all we have. I can't afford to start over. My father didn't leave me wit that luxury."

"If you were well off, could you not send money to her? Could you not take care of her, without actually being around the woman, suppressed by her selfish beliefs?" Angela was brave, and she reached up to stroke Gabriel's cheek. "I can make sure you are financially stable for life. Both of you."

"I don't understand..." The hairs on the back of Gabriel's neck stood at attention as she touched him, not certain why he didn't flinch away, as he usually did when people, especially women, tried to touch him. He was instantly distracted though. "You're cold. Where are my manners? I should have offered you tea."

"I don't need tea, Gabriel." Her eyes glinted, dark and sparkling, and Angela pushed unto Gabriel's mind the slightest form of hypnotism...encouraging his compliance. It was for his own good. "I want you to join my family. Say yes."

Gabriel stopped short, the hairs smoothing down again of their own accord. A very peaceful feeling settled over him suddenly, like being wrapped in a warm blanket, everything he'd ever expected a maternal affection ought to feel like. "I've always dreampt of a real family..." his voice was somewhat distant, as though he was day dreaming. "A loving mother, and a father who stayed..."

"Well." She cupped Gabriel's cheek again, this time with conviction. "You'll have a mother, at least. Who needs a father? You're already quite the man. You simply need companionship." Her thumb brushed his cheekbone and Angela held Gabriel's eyes with her own, entrancing him further. "Say yes, Gabriel. Say yes and I'll make your wildest dreams come true, for eternity." Inside her chest, Angela's heart beat wildly. There was nothing as thrilling as this.

He had no idea what he was agreeing to, but he couldn't seem to care. Some sort of survival instinct was trying to fight its way above the surface and make him run, but it was so far away in the back of his brain.

This woman, out of the blue, she made him feel wanted, loved, and protected. She could see more for him, but she wasn't belittling him in the very same breath, the way Virginia treated him. "Yes... Yes, I want to be part of that."

Angela smiled proudly. "Come." She took Gabriel's hand and brought him into the back room where he was often forced to live. Normally she would have turned her nose up at how tiny and clustered it was, but this man was now her son, and she could care less.

Angela brought him to a small mirror and had Gabriel sit in front of it. That was the only way to lessen the height difference, it seemed. She hovered behind him, lightly stroking his hair. "Tell me what you see, Gabriel. Tell me about yourself."

The trance state lingered, loosening his tongue. The young man who was so often never able to speak his mind found himself suddenly pouring out his inner most secrets as he looked into that mirror and felt her fingers sifting through his hair.

"I see... ugly. Unwanted. She always calls me her handsome boy, but she treats me like something repulsive. The girls snicker behind their fans and the gentlemen laugh outright at me. But I'm brilliant. None of them know it, or they wouldn't laugh so hard.

"The things I can do with a clock or a watch, that's just childsplay. I could make them look like the fools they are if they'd just stop braying long enough. Anyway, I'm too good to keep their two-faced company."

Angela continued to stroke Gabriel's hair, her nails scraping lightly along his scalp. "You're so much better than any of them, Gabriel. You're so much better. And you'll fit into our family like a puzzle piece. Those men and women, they are afraid of your potential. But I'm not. I want you to succeed, and I have the means to see you do." As she spoke, Angela leaned in and swiped her finger over the side of Gabriel's neck.

It may have felt like nothing happened at first, but she was wearing a special kind of ring that cut flesh like a hot knife through butter. Gabriel's blood began to flow and she was on him in an instant, her mouth closing over the wound to drink in that glorious elixir.

Between the hypnotism and the swift cut of the sharply honed blade, Gabriel was completely unaware what was happening at first. His head tilted aside naturally as Angela nuzzled there, simply making room because of the contact. Gradually, the sharp sting of the wound began to work its way through his muddled thoughts. "What... what are you doing?"

He didn't try to stop her though. He had no idea what was going on. It felt like his barber had nicked him, but he didn't really realize he'd been wounded yet. Didn't notice that he was losing blood, and certainly not that his strange benefactress was drinking it.

Angela's eyes fluttered shut when that delicious, warm liquid spilled down at her throat like silk. It was nearly orgasmic, especially to a woman like her; a poetic cougar at heart, feeding off of some delicious young male. She damn near purred when her dark eyes opened again, catching his in the mirror.

Slowly and gently, Angela's hand came up Gabriel's chest to cup his jaw and keep him still, should he decide to pull away. Her strength would easily take care of that issue, immobilizing him like a snake would do to a rabbit, if need be. Though her thoughts may have been dark, the vampire was still quite gentle, sucking blood from Gabriel's neck in languid gulps through soft lips. She was going to make him hers, but first, she needed to drain him.

"Ohhh… this feels… no, Madam, what-…" he couldn't form coherent thoughts, the warm, opiate-like blanket of her influence leaving everything so muddled. He reached up one hand and turned his face back in toward her, as though meaning to ward her off and push her away, but it ended up more like a nuzzle and lover's caress. "I'm so dizzy…"

Angela dug her fingernails into Gabriel's jaw and closed her eyes once again. He wouldn't be getting away from her...no, not today. Possibly later on Gabriel would find ways to hide from her in their grand home but tonight, he belonged to the old woman.

"Ahhng!" his own fingers laced into her perfectly coiffed hair, gripping weakly as she drained his blood. He was starting to become aware of what was happening, and it was certainly strange and horrifying, but those seemed such abstract concepts that he couldn't translate into any sort of action or instinct or emotion.

"I feel cold," he mumbled as the blood loss began to steal his body heat the poorer his circulation became. His breathing picked up as his cells became oxygen starved, making his vertigo even worse. Luckily he was seated, or he'd have hit the floor. As it was he slumped limply and began to tremble softly as he bled out into her mouth.

Angela caressed Gabriel's face in a knowing manner. Part of her felt bad for doing this to him, but she was mainly excited over the prospect of a new son. She took a few long, final gulps, until Gabriel's heartbeat was slow and weak.

And then, Angela pulled her mouth away, lips stained red with his crimson blood. She gave his neck a long lick and helped him slump forward onto the desk. "You're dying, Mister Gray. And unless you drink my blood...you'll be gone for good." She fished a small vial out of her pocket and then sliced into her own wrist, filling the clear container.
