The Sixth Extinction

Character(s): Gabriel "Sylar" Gray and Claire Bennet
Summary: Building 26 is never shut down. No one convinces the president that it's best to just drop the matter of evolved humans, and Danko is given cart blanche to deal with the super-powered threat as he sees fit. In the next century the Evolved are hunted to the brink of extinction, either out-right exterminated, or imprisoned and exploited for their ability. The number of specials used in this way grows fewer and fewer as time and mishaps progress, but one type is still coveted above all. Exterminating a regenerator is exceedingly difficult, anyway...
Status: In progress/PRIVATE

"I take that as a blessing." Mohinder sighed, spreading his arms over the back of the seat and over Claire's shoulder. "You do realize that if the world forgets us, we will finally be able to live in peace. You would think almost a century would have set a us free."

"Looks like we have more waiting to do." Claire added, a small smile on her face. "It's a good thing I have a great deal of patience."
Oct. 7th, 2010 06:08 pm (UTC)
"As long as their hunting down gene carriers, they won't forget us. And if they ever stop hunting them, people will start popping up with abilities again, won't they?" Sylar supposed. "Unless they've really hunted it that far close to extinction. Do you know what percentage of the population is still carrying, Mohinder?" If anyone did, it would be the man who'd had access to Shenoy research for the last fourteen years.
Oct. 7th, 2010 06:45 pm (UTC)
"The problem with the gene is that it's a combination or recessive traits." The Indian explained. "Since it's not a single gene, generations can carry the potential to manifest an ability and never show for it. I don't think it will ever be stamped out."

"Good." Claire frowned. "I hope that one day abilities spread like wildfire and then nobody can stop it."
Oct. 7th, 2010 07:19 pm (UTC)
"Agreed," he smiled softly at the thought. The world back on track, wherever it had been headed before. Unstoppable evolution taking humanity to its next level, and the three of them still there to see it. It would be amazing.

...but what would happen to him, then?
Oct. 11th, 2010 02:30 am (UTC)
Hopefully nothing drastic. Of course, neither Claire, nor Mohinder had the thought that perhaps having a world full of people with fantastic abilities might pull the demon inside Sylar to do the terrible things he was known for and written about in history.

Those thoughts were far from either of their minds as they made there way west. After a few more hours, the trio found themselves in the vast reaches and beautiful valleys of Colorado. Mohinder's nose was plastered to the window, a small smile tugging at his lips.

"You know, I've never been to Colorado. Not really." He turned and gave a full blown smile at his companions. "I've flown through it and driven through it, but I've never stop to just look at it."

"It is beautiful, huh?" Claire grinned, leaning over to see the type of view the Indian had. "I already like it way better than LA."
Oct. 13th, 2010 07:16 pm (UTC)
"I like anything better than LA," Sylar was just not really that kind of person. Even San Francisco would have been better, for the West Coast, but never mind that now. "But this is absolutely gorgeous. I think we can be very comfortable here."

And Sylar wasn't going to let any little, silly mistakes ruin it, this time. He could check out the town, make sure there wasn't anyone dangerous they would run into, and for a whle they could just stay to themselves and not even worry about unwanted visitors. It was almost too perfect.
Oct. 13th, 2010 07:48 pm (UTC)
Too perfect almost always led to too comfortable and too comfortable led to capture, but as Mohinder watched the scenic beauty before him, all cautious thoughts escaped him. He turned his eyes to his friends, his real friends and gave them both a bright grin.

"I think I like Colorado." He smiled.

"I think I like being away the city the most." Claire smiled back. "Now we can have our horses and apple trees and no one will care." She paused, adding a wink to the end of her statement. "Hopefully."
Oct. 15th, 2010 11:49 pm (UTC)
"Hopefully," Sylar agreed. "But I think we'll be safe for a while. We can put everything in the name of my new cover identity, and interact with the general public as little as possible for a while. I think we're going to be pretty busy really getting to know one another again anyway. I'm sure we all have stories."

Which would be difficult to tell, at first, he knew, but was confident things would get better with time. "Also, I think the ranch will be big enough, we can each take walks, or go for a ride or something if we need a bit of alone time."
Oct. 17th, 2010 12:26 pm (UTC)
"As long as we have horses and apples, I am going to be one happy girl." Claire smiled, looking around at her friends. Mohinder looked as i he truly did love Colorado. It would probably be a nice change of pace for him. More color. Mohinder liked color, the blond at least knew that.

"So, where do you propose we start looking, Gabriel? Colorado is a big state." Claire chuckled.

"Yes. It is." Mohinder confirmed, not really paying all that much attention. His focus was now on the scenery rolling by the windows.
Oct. 19th, 2010 05:45 pm (UTC)
"Well, we have some prospects on the onboard system. I put in some search parameters, bedrooms, acres, ranch type, that sort of thing. If you want to browse through we could pick one and visit," he keyed up the information and sat back, noticing Mohinder's attention rapt on the landscape.

He smiled softly and looked out at it in earnest himself. There was definitely quite a great deal of colour and he knew his usual black ensemble would not fly here. Oddly, that didn't trouble him as much as he thought it might. He was finally building a family, people who tabout each other and he wanted to fit in with them. He doubted he would be able to go to Mohinder's flamboyant extremes, but the palate of the western environs was rather attractive.
Oct. 19th, 2010 09:41 pm (UTC)
"Ooh!" Claire exclaimed suddenly after a long silence of her looking through the choices. "This one looks nice." She grinned, pulling at Mohinder's shirt so that they all could look.

"It's huge." The Indian pointed out. "Though, I suppose that's a good thing. More room to roam, more space to put between each other if we step on toes." Mohinder shrugged, looking at the choice. "But do we really need four bedrooms?" He asked, looking at Sylar. "Wouldn't two suffice?"

At least he was playing nice about it. Sylar and Claire were a couple, so-to-speak. He only needed his own space. They could easily share.
Oct. 20th, 2010 12:36 am (UTC)
"Three, at least, in case I get in trouble," Sylar winked. "I don't fancy the sofa. But we could do other thinks with the extra space. An office maybe," he shrugged one shoulder. "Not that we have to decide now. We can look around and see what we think. It's pretty though."
Oct. 20th, 2010 12:42 am (UTC)
"True." Mohinder conceded, smiling a bit. "And I think I'd like a lab." The indian laughed. "Haven't had one of those for play in a long time."
Oct. 20th, 2010 12:49 am (UTC)
"It might be perfect then," Sylar smiled wider, liking the idea of Mohinder back to work at a private lab, studying whatever took his interest. He set the vehicles coordinates to take them to the house, putting in a notice of the intended visit at the same time. "Furnishing is going to be interesting."
Oct. 20th, 2010 01:37 am (UTC)
"And fun!" Claire was all smiles. This was a step in the right direction. They could start fresh and live normal which was always a plus in the blond's eyes.

"Well, it will be interesting." Mohinder reiterated. "I'm not sure exactly how I'm going to get all the things I would need for a real at home lab, but it will certainly pose a fun challenge. I'm sure some of the supplies I would require are black-listed now."

"Oh, yeah." The blond said, her demeanor turning slightly sour. "We can't do anything that would tip anyone off. Don't want Shenoy coming looking for us."

"Right." The Indian nodded. "So, perhaps I'll stick limited doctoring. I'll go the veterinary route to start and then slowly branch out once everyone thinks I'm just there to help the horses."
Oct. 20th, 2010 05:06 am (UTC)
"There are other ways to get materials than the traceable channels, but we will want to be cautious," Sylar agreed, sipping the soda he had with him. "What kind of lab work are you hoping to do, eventually?"
Oct. 20th, 2010 10:03 am (UTC)
"No idea." The doctor smirked happily. "Just wan to do it again. I have a lot to catch up on from the past century." He laughed, leaning back and resting his head back on the window to watch the scenery.
Oct. 21st, 2010 05:29 am (UTC)
"Well, it'll be nice to see you pouring over microscopes and computer screens again," Sylar smiled and looked out over the landscape, too. There were horses grazing on a field outside, far enough away that they could be observed, even at their traveling speeds.

Soon enough they had found their destination, stepping out in front of a beautiful ranch home, very old, but well maintained, surrounded by acres of land. Standing and seeing it in person, in three dimensions, Sylar took a deep breath of country air, "It's even more beautiful."
Oct. 23rd, 2010 01:21 pm (UTC)
Mohinder and Claire followed Sylar as he got out of the car and admired the house. It really was beautiful. It was sort of like looking at a western mansion. The siding was a brick read color and the windows were trimmed in white. It was everything that Claire had imagined a wealthy farmhouse would look like and certainly exactly what Mohinder had wanted.

"So lets go take a look around. They know we're coming, yes?" The Indian asked, his voice slightly distant and full of wonder.
Oct. 26th, 2010 08:08 am (UTC)
"Yes, they know. It's a vacant property, actually, been on the market to several months," he stretched, arms up over his head so that his shirt rode up, showing the fur of his belly in the light. "I'll be glad to walk the property a bit. I need to stretch my legs..."
Oct. 27th, 2010 04:17 am (UTC)
Claire ran around the car to nab Sylar from behind, laughing and scratching at the bit of belly fur and playfully tickling the brunette.

"I think this place is lovely." She grinned.

"I agree. All the space we could ever want." The Indian smiled softly, he two giving himself a good stretch as they vacated the vehicle. "And we could actually raise horses here. It will give us time to relax and enjoy life."
Oct. 30th, 2010 12:23 am (UTC)
"Wouldn't that be a change?" Sylar smiled and laughed as he was tickled, ruffling Claire's hair playfully. "C'mon, lets take a closer look."

The ranch was plenty large with several different paddocks of various sizes to keep and ride horses. The barn was very handsome, though perhaps in need of a painting and a few minor repairs. It was an old thing that had been well maintained with stalls for as many as eight horses, though Sylar expected they probably would not fill all of them by any means.

"We're going to have to be very careful, if we want to keep this," Sylar pointed out, running his hand over a stall rail that had been worn smooth by age.
Oct. 30th, 2010 12:34 am (UTC)
"Then we be careful." Mohinder nodded, knowing full well what Sylar meant. If the stepped out of line even the tiniest bit, they would be caught and this homey dream would be put to an end like a shotgun to the head. The Indian face was stern as he looked at the two. "I don't want to lose this. I've only just found it."
Oct. 30th, 2010 12:36 am (UTC)
"And just found us." Claire smiled, walking up to put her arm around the doctor. "And we don't want to lose this, or you either."

The blond certainly did not want to go back to Shenoy, but she also id not want to lose this strange family the three of them created. They belonged together. Forever.
Oct. 30th, 2010 10:32 am (UTC)
"I adore the two of you," Sylar smiled at the pair, standing so close and easy for the moment. It was a bit nonsequitur, but it needed saying, for he was just so intensely pleased to have them in his life. He left the gate and came back to them, nodding toward the entrance of the barn. "Shall we go up and have a look at the house?"
