The Sixth Extinction

Character(s): Gabriel "Sylar" Gray and Claire Bennet
Summary: Building 26 is never shut down. No one convinces the president that it's best to just drop the matter of evolved humans, and Danko is given cart blanche to deal with the super-powered threat as he sees fit. In the next century the Evolved are hunted to the brink of extinction, either out-right exterminated, or imprisoned and exploited for their ability. The number of specials used in this way grows fewer and fewer as time and mishaps progress, but one type is still coveted above all. Exterminating a regenerator is exceedingly difficult, anyway...
Status: In progress/PRIVATE

"Mohinder. If you leave, I will worry, and not just a little, it will drive me to distraction. Because it's you. Because it's us, the last of us, and Shenoy is looking. If you leave..." he unfolded his legs and hung them over the side of the bed.

"Honestly, I will probably do whatever it takes to track you down and convince you to come back. Or just kidnap you. I don't think it would be beyond me still. That'd be a real good way to put things on the rocks with Claire.

"You're our friend, not a third wheel. Not to mention, tricycles are a hell of a lot more stable than bicycles. No need for a kickstand." It was part unrelated fact and part metaphor. God only knew how long Claire and Sylar would really be enough for one another. He continued, half metaphor again and now half joke, "And don't get me started on unicycles."
Sep. 28th, 2010 01:27 pm (UTC)
"And what if one of that tricycle's wheels is broken and warped?" The Indian asked, his face distorted with both confusion and light irritation. "And while the other two wheels are snuggling together, loving each other and making love to each other, what does that damaged wheel do?"

Mohinder had gotten lost in te metaphor, allowing some of his fears to come to light behind the mask of the tricycle.

"You are loved," Sylar explained gently, his voice becoming calmer and softer as the stress in Mohinder's began to show. "That's what being friends means. Is that really so insufficient that you can't stay with us?"

The situation wasn't fair. Not fair for Claire and Sylar to expect the Indian to stand by, 'alone', while they had the romantic love Mohinder's strength cheated him of. Not fair for Mohinder to set such an ultimatum, not having what they had thus depriving them of any relationship with him.
Sep. 28th, 2010 06:18 pm (UTC)
"I want what you two have." Mohinder sighed, his eyes glossing over once more. "You seem so happy together." Yup. He was jealous. They got what he could never have.
Sep. 28th, 2010 07:04 pm (UTC)
"So it's all or nothing, hm? Because good luck finding it out there," he nodded at the door. "Sheniy has the other regenerators, and none of them know Doctor Mohinder Suresh from anything but text books anyway." harsh, but Mohijder wasn't the only one with a temper.
Sep. 29th, 2010 12:51 am (UTC)
"Right. No one will love me, no one will accept me expect you two and you two have each other!" Mohinder suddenly raised his voice, tears springing from his eyes as Sylar's words scalded him in ways nothing physical could. "Nobody wants a man who can break them with a loving embrace. Nobody wants a forgotten old freak like me! Of course I don't belong. I will never belong. No matter what I do! And I can never end it, I can't even drown myself! There's no way for me to end it!"
Sep. 29th, 2010 01:57 am (UTC)
"Good! I don't want you drowning yourself. I want you here!" Sylar was trying to maintain a calm, but it was much like his arguments with Claire. He didn't appreciate people leaving, especially with such an obvious tone of rejection to it.

"Look, I'm sorry, I'm not gay," though he wasn't sure he wasn't lying. "I can't be everything you want, but can't a good friend be enough? I can still comfort you when you're hurting, hug you when you need it with out fear. Please… Stay."
Sep. 29th, 2010 02:14 am (UTC)
"What does being gay have to do with anything?!" Mohinder swung his arms up in the air, now not only crying, but looking very confused. "And being a friend is great, except I don't want to be around all the time to watch you two revel in something I can't have!" The Indian spun on his heels and made for the door. "Now, you done enough damage trying to help, Gabriel!"
Sep. 29th, 2010 02:53 am (UTC)
"Shit. Stop! Wait!" Sylar shot up off the bed, chased him and swung quickly round front, hands on Mohinder's shoulders. "Don't leave like this. I'm sorry. I'm an ass, still. Just… Stay. I can't…" lose you again.
Sep. 29th, 2010 03:43 am (UTC)
"You can't what, Gabriel?!" Mohinder stared down the brunette, a look of maniacal hilarity written on his tear-streaked face. "What are you going to do? Stop me? One: you can't stop me from doing anything, I'm like a six-hundred-pound gorilla. And two: you could never understand this loneliness. You can never..."
Sep. 29th, 2010 04:28 am (UTC)
Sylar's features went dark. His hands came off Mohinder's shoulders, he stepped back a half step, put one hand to Mohinder's chest and pushed. Not much, but he didn't need to. There was a slight upward lift to the pantomime, enough to pick the doctor a couple inches up off the floor so he couldn't set a firm footing. In the same motion he tossed the Indian back.

"One? I can handle a six-hundred pound gorilla, and then some. Two? Maybe your memory isn't as good as it seemed, or you might recall how isolated I've been, and why. You might remember how easy it was for me to lose the people who might have cared, if I wasn't so Goddamned damaged, so sick."
Sep. 29th, 2010 04:51 am (UTC)
Mohinder glared and practically growled as he picked himself off the floor and in a fit of rage, charged at the brunette, pinning him against the far wall next to the door. The cracking of bones could be heard easily.

"DON'T patronize me, Sylar!" The Indian hissed through clenched teeth. "You do NOT want to start this now!"
Sep. 29th, 2010 05:02 am (UTC)
Sylar couldn't bite back the cry of pain as his bones broke and shoulder dislocated. He panted through clenched teeth, groaning with every exhale. "'m not patronizing. I'm sympathizing, in my own twisted way," he chuckled a bit through the agony, giving the Indian a slightly unbalanced grin.
Sep. 29th, 2010 01:50 pm (UTC)
"Well then you're just as fucked up as I remember." The doctor seethed, releasing Sylar so that the man could heal. "And don't tell me that I'm loved. You and Claire have each other." Mohinder glared, taking a step back and surveying the room. "And there is no one left. I don't see anyone to love me. So don't give me that crap."
Sep. 29th, 2010 05:39 pm (UTC)
"At least stay until the IDs arrive," Sylar reasoned as bones knit, honestly just trying to buy time. "If you do go then you'll have a new cover, and I'll have a little more peace of mind."

He had no intentions of allowing the doctor to disappear anyway, but he had obviously let Mohinder's effects on him damage the patient calm he had tried to start this with.
Sep. 29th, 2010 05:54 pm (UTC)
The Indian scoffed and took a few step back, breathing heavily and tryi to calm himself. He wiped his cheeks with his sleeve and looked away, focusing on something that WASN'T Sylar for a moment. Eventually, his sat down with a heavy sigh, pulling at his sleeves a bit like Zane Taylor did while the brunette wore the guise.

"I don't know if I can." Mohinder shook his head, his voice and demeanor much calmer. "I think it might be too hard, too painful." He thought about being with Claire and watching her and Sylar be happy and in love. "It would be too much."
Sep. 29th, 2010 06:04 pm (UTC)
Sylar pulled his own arm, grunting as the socket popped back into place, then pushed away from the wall. He came and sat beside the Indian, reaching out to touch those half-hidden hands. "I don't know how to let you go. I'm blowing fuses in my brain, trying to figure out what it would take to make you stay."
Sep. 29th, 2010 06:25 pm (UTC)
"But I don't think I want to." Mohinder frowned, pulling away slightly, but leaving his hands where they were. "I think I would rather just go back to India. I don't stick out as much there."
Sep. 29th, 2010 07:11 pm (UTC)
His chest hurt more now than when Mohinder had slammed him against the wall, and this was lingering. He didn't care that they could find each other again decades from now. He wanted this new piece of his past with him now, but Mohinder seemed hellbent on depriving him.

He sighed deeply, trying to relieve the pressure, and pushed a bit to lace his fingertips between Mohinder's. What to say? What could convince him? Sylar knew it would be easy, if he could just give the man the intimacy he wanted, but that sounded like a good way to lose Claire. "What am I supposed to do?"
Sep. 30th, 2010 02:57 am (UTC)
"You let me go... You don't need me here." Mohinder sighed, squeezing Sylar's hand a bit, not too tight, just enough to let the man know he was there. "It would pain me too much to live with the two of you, the one thing I really want being unintentionally flaunted in front of me." The doctor paused and held up his free hand. "I know you don't mean it that way, but that's how it will always feel."
Sep. 30th, 2010 07:12 am (UTC)
Sylar glanced toward the door, making sure it wasn't opening on the petite blonde before he said, "You're giving me cruelly strong incentive to break up with my girlfriend."
Sep. 30th, 2010 12:20 pm (UTC)
"No!" Mohinder shook his head and pulled his hand away, almost like the skin touching his own had burned him. "You can't do that. Why would you even think about doing that?" The Indian did not understand that at all. After a few seconds, he settled down slightly and sighed again, looking at Sylar with a quizzical eye.

"Wait... does this have anything to do with the gay comment earlier?" Mohinder asked, one eyebrow raised. Then the other eyebrow quickly shot up with it's partner, the answer dawning on the doctor quite fast. So fast, that it send Mohinder's mind into overdrive, leading him to ramble on.

"OH! You don't think... You don't think I've been hitting on you, have you? No, no... that's not the problem... I mean, you're handsome and all, but... I've never... and that would be weird..." He continued to babble, now blushing fiercely and pacing the room, pulling at his sleeves as if it was the only thing that would keep him balanced.
Sep. 30th, 2010 06:13 pm (UTC)
"No, Mohinder," Sylar now took his freed hand and pressed his forehead into it. "I just meant if it's going to bother you so much you have to run half way around the world... maybe Claire and I should just be friends, too."

Which was hardly what he really wanted, but he could go back to sleeping in his own bed and being celibate if he had to. His sex-drive had never been particularly strong anyway. He'd moreso miss the cuddling.
Sep. 30th, 2010 07:19 pm (UTC)
"No. Why would I take that away from you?" Mohinder said as he stopped his pacing, looking at Sylar with mor distress. "You love her and your happy. She loves you. You'll have each other forever. I don't want to stand in the way of that."
Sep. 30th, 2010 08:25 pm (UTC)
Sylar laughed and shook his head at Mohinder's overly optimistic prognosis of his relationship with Claire. God only knew how long they'd really be able to stand one another, even with love there. Forever? That was quite a long time.

"But you're Mohinder Suresh," his smile became small and more than a little sad. "You remember Bozeman, and M&M chip cookies, and you've been alive for nearly a century that I haven't known about and I've missed you." The waterlines of his eyes were red. There was a desperation building in his chest he hadn't felt in decades. The kind that had a habit of ending in blood.
