The Sixth Extinction

Character(s): Gabriel "Sylar" Gray and Claire Bennet
Summary: Building 26 is never shut down. No one convinces the president that it's best to just drop the matter of evolved humans, and Danko is given cart blanche to deal with the super-powered threat as he sees fit. In the next century the Evolved are hunted to the brink of extinction, either out-right exterminated, or imprisoned and exploited for their ability. The number of specials used in this way grows fewer and fewer as time and mishaps progress, but one type is still coveted above all. Exterminating a regenerator is exceedingly difficult, anyway...
Status: In progress/PRIVATE

"From what I understand, that broad was a total bitch anyways. She would have deserved it. Micah told me some nasty stories." She explained, snuggling a bit. "I miss Micah. He was a good guy."
Aug. 24th, 2010 04:37 am (UTC)
"...He was," Gabriel agreed, smiling softly. "Amazing kid. Well, the only time I really ran into him, he was just a kid. Putting up one hell of a fight against Danko and his special forces ass holes.

"He knew who I was, my history, everything the Initiative had on me and he still believed I could change. Be a hero. So I saved his life that day, how about that?" He smirked and shook his head.

"Yeah, he told us that story. Nobody believed him." Claire chuckled softly against the cotton of Sylar's shirt. "Well, almost nobody. Molly Walker believed him. Always did. Those two, they were meant for each other. Too bad really." The former blond shrugged, rolling over to look up at the ceiling.

"Could you imagine what would happen if we ran into Peter or Hiro... or what about Mohinder?" Claire grinned, elbowing Sylar with a grin. Their conversation before about the Indian left the former blond with the distinct feeling that the brunette would be happier then he'd let on if the doctor made a sudden appearance. "I really do miss them all..."
Aug. 29th, 2010 10:28 pm (UTC)
'Me, too.' He said nothing. Just closed his eyes and tried not to imagine too distinctly what it would be like if they found Mohinder Suresh again. Sylar knew he had a bad habit of idealizing, and there was likely pretty poor chances of things going well, at least initially.

It would complicate things. It wouldn't just be him and Claire any more, but a third element, one that drew both Sylar and Claire's attention. That is, if he even wanted to see either of them at all. Perhaps it would be too much for the Indian. Maybe he'd shut them both out, and wouldn't that be depressing?

The brunette ended up with quite a bit less sleep than he wanted, here on their first night in L.A. Luckily his body didn't care either way. His mind just woke restless.

They had a lot on their plates that day, anyway. Sylar procured some cheap jewelry, converted it to precious metal and pawned it for extra funding, then it was off to find people who could forge identification. Building their new life would take a little time, but they were both experts by now.

While the 'paperwork' was processing they were able to start researching lodging and begin shopping for their new 'look'. Sylar found this part very amusing, helping take his mind off the more stressful aspects of resetting who they were.

He bought a black kohl pencil and had Claire help him line his eyes so that he was fashionable, rather than looking like a mime or raccoon, then they hit the shops, where he modeled those earlier-mentioned leather pants for her. "What do you think? Me?"
Aug. 29th, 2010 10:50 pm (UTC)
"Uh, yes please." Claire laughed, thoroughly enjoying watching Sylar parade around in tight leather pants. "You have too cute a butt not to wear those." She chuckled, the girl already wearing a black bustier and lacy black skirt.

Doing the brunette's make-up had been fun, but this was certainly far more entertaining.

"And we'll need some gel for your hair. We can spike it up all Billy Idol-like." That statement earned a strange look from the girl in the goth shop who was helping another woman near them.
Aug. 29th, 2010 11:04 pm (UTC)
"I thought that retro-look was a no-go?" He grinned, trying to cover a bit for the mention of that no practically ancient musical reference. He tried on a jacket that had the sort of military appeal he often wore anyway, just a little more stylistically embellished with a few D-rings.
Aug. 29th, 2010 11:20 pm (UTC)
"Well, I think it's coolio. My grandma showed me these crazy pictures..." Claire trailed off, hoping that she was covered. Once they'd bought some clothes, they made their way out.

"We need shoes." The new brunette giggled. "Or, should I say: I need shoes." She laughed.
Aug. 30th, 2010 02:35 am (UTC)
"Right, I think I could use a good pair of boots myself. Nothing too much until we get settled in, but I'm not really matching," he pulled up the cuff of the leather jeans a bit to show the contrast. "Shouldn't be too difficult to find though."

They explored a few more shops, Sylar finding some nice lace up boots easily enough. Women's shoes, however, were as complicated and varied as they'd ever been. Luckily the Intuitive didn't mind watching the girl fit her dainty feet in and out of the various styles.
Aug. 30th, 2010 02:55 am (UTC)
Claire found a few cheap pairs ranging from flats to platforms. She told Sylar that she needed variety unlike boys who could wear the same damn thing every day and no one would care.

Once the clothes shopping was done, the two brought their purchases back to the hotel that they were able to rent out for a few days while they got their life in order.

Everything about this was so routine, except for one major detail. Neither of them were alone. Claire found great relief in knowing that Sylar would be standing with her during this rebuild. She wouldn't have to do anything too demeaning to maintain a place for herself.

"Did I ever tell you about the time I stripped in Atlanta?" She asked, revealing where her mind was as they went through their purchases.
Aug. 30th, 2010 03:19 am (UTC)
"Nno," he looked up, folding several t-shirts of bands he had absolutely never heard of into one of the dresser drawers. "You haven't mentioned that particular story. Do I get hurt if I show too much interest?" he quirked an eyebrow, curiously.
Aug. 30th, 2010 03:24 am (UTC)
"Nah." Claire scoffed, laughing slightly that Sylar actually had interest. "I was hard up on luck about thirty years ago. This is before I moved to Boston. I was having a tough time finding a job and couldn't find a place to sleep most nights. Luckily, don't need much sleep, ya know?" She smiled at the brunette, knowing full well that he understood sleep wasn't always a necessity for them.

"I decided that the lowest that I would actually let myself sink was to take my clothes off for money. I would never and will never hook. Under no circumstances." She shook her head, her new black curls bouncing around her ears. "But, dancing naked, I decided, was completely acceptable. I ended up living above the club I worked at for three years."
Aug. 30th, 2010 03:43 am (UTC)
"I like your scruples," he smiled, going back to the bed and flopping down. "Three years though? And with all that cheerleading back ground, you must have been something to watch, working the pole? I've never been one for strip clubs, but I can't say I don't appreciate the athleticism involved."
Aug. 30th, 2010 04:01 am (UTC)
"Uh huh..." Claire smirked, not buying that line at all. "You just like think about me grinding a pole in nothing but a g-string. Don't lie."
Aug. 30th, 2010 04:02 am (UTC)
"Grinding a pole in a g-string?" he made a take-it-or-leave-it thoughtful expression. "But a nice, erotic strip tease and some fancy acrobatics? That could be fun." The brunette grinned.
Aug. 30th, 2010 04:12 am (UTC)
"Pig." Claire laughed, throwing a pair of pants at the brunette as she chuckled.
Aug. 30th, 2010 05:24 am (UTC)
"Nooooo, 'pig' would have been, 'forget the g-string, baby, I got a pole you can grind'," Sylar gave her a shit-eating grin as he hammed up the lasciviousness. Then he grabbed the pants and folded them, completely OCD over it.
Aug. 30th, 2010 05:32 am (UTC)
"Oh, God." Claire rolled her eyes with a barking laughter. "That was just awful." She smiled, continuing to unpack, this time not throwing anything Sylar's way. "You're too good at that."
Aug. 30th, 2010 05:36 am (UTC)
"Well, I'm an actor. I can behave convincingly out of character, if I have to. Though I can't think of many situations in which complete and total misogynistic jerkishness would be required," he shrugged, then got up to wash the eyeliner off his face.
Aug. 30th, 2010 05:39 am (UTC)
"Well, it certainly puts you in a place where people want to avoid you. Take me for example..." Claire laughed and shouted at him as he disappeared into the bathroom. She was kidding with him, of course, but it was all in harmless fun. She really didn't think she'd handle losing Sylar very well at this stage of the game.
Aug. 30th, 2010 05:47 am (UTC)
"Hush, you do not. And you can't claim you weren't eying my package when I first tried on those leather jeans," he returned fresh and scrubbed up. "Not that I wasn't admiring your legs in that mini-number."
Aug. 30th, 2010 05:55 am (UTC)
"Okay, okay..." Claire nodded with a grin. "You got me there." She was so glad that they'd gotten to a point where they could joke the way they did. Teasing was something you did with a person you were comfortable around. The former cheerleader was very, very glad that they were comfortable.
Aug. 30th, 2010 06:08 am (UTC)
She wasn't the only one. He no longer worried she was attacking him when she kidded him. It was wonderful. "Explains your great moves back at the club though, you've had some practical experience." He started looking through delivery menus to find them some dinner. "What do you feel like tonight?"
Aug. 30th, 2010 08:01 am (UTC)
"Oh, anything is just fine." Claire waved the brunette off. She really didn't care about eating much. As much fin as playing dress-up today was, she really wished she could have bought a nice yellow sundress and a new bikini to go frolicking around California with. It was sort of depressing knowing you were going to be wearing all that black all the time.
Aug. 30th, 2010 08:15 am (UTC)
"Alright then, I'll just order something," he shuffled through and picked one at random, ending up with Chinese. He went for sweet stuff. Pineapple fried rice and orange chicken, things like that. It always perked him up when the day was a little less than ideal.
Aug. 30th, 2010 08:36 am (UTC)
Claire got pretty much the same thing Sylar did except instead of fried rice, she went with boiled white. It was a simple evening that left them lounging on the bed, eating late and falling asleep with the television on.

The next few days were a bit of a pain, but not as much as they would have been had they been by themselves. Paperwork and digital accounts were easy to set up when you found the right people to talk to. Because no matter how advanced and observant Big Brother got, people still came to this country illegally all the time.

Even their apartment was a shady deal. They were able to find an illegal loft apartment over a Japanese Kyabakura where the Mamasan was kind enough to let them live without asking Claire to work for her, though she did offer, a few times. The former cheerleader insisted that her Japanese was too poor to be of any real service, but then she let it slip that she could bartend and the woman was overjoyed.

"I work too much." She laughed. "You come work with me Friday and Saturday nights, you get cut in rent." The older woman laughed. There was no passing up that deal.

There were two other apartments over the hostess club, one occupied by the owner herself and another two of the girls who worked downstairs. Luckily, this was not one hundred years ago. Though some shady things went down behind closed doors, this place was a well-run, clean operation... aside from the illegal apartments.

It was the first time in a long time Sylar had lived anywhere with his own face as the primary identity. A little risky in one sense, less in another, because he didn't have to worry about a complex backstory to maintain.

If they needed extra money, he was able to convert cheap materials into precious ones and fence it. In that way they would never want for anything. If Claire ever got fed up with the bar tending, she could drop it, but Sylar enjoyed popping down and tossing back a few, ineffective drinks now and then to keep her company among all the business men.
