The Sixth Extinction

Character(s): Gabriel "Sylar" Gray and Claire Bennet
Summary: Building 26 is never shut down. No one convinces the president that it's best to just drop the matter of evolved humans, and Danko is given cart blanche to deal with the super-powered threat as he sees fit. In the next century the Evolved are hunted to the brink of extinction, either out-right exterminated, or imprisoned and exploited for their ability. The number of specials used in this way grows fewer and fewer as time and mishaps progress, but one type is still coveted above all. Exterminating a regenerator is exceedingly difficult, anyway...

The blond let herself down, her features creased in a frown. "I'm sorry." She said, her voice slightly ashamed. "I don't know what I was thinking... no, I do." Claire looked up at the brunette, his height now a little intimidating to her since she only came up to his mid-chest. "I was thinking jealously how you were mine and no one else's..."

That was a bit of a revelation, at least for Sylar. Claire had felt this was for a few weeks now, but she really didn't know how to voice it until now. Her eyes even moistened a little and she had to look away.

"You are all I have left of what I was and I'm not going to let some... some..." She looked up, a tear falling right before she burst into her last words. "Not some stupid runways model or dumb ass bookworm! You deserve the same thing I do and no one else can give you that except me."
Jan. 21st, 2010 12:48 am (UTC)
"Shh-shh-shh, it's okay," his eyes widened as she became so unexpectedly emotional, forgetting his physical condition for a moment as he brushed that tear away quickly. "I know that, God, how I know that. I don't even see the other people around me now that you're here again."

He was just shocked and amazed to hear her talk about him so possessively. Not long ago she had vehemently insisted she neither needed nor wanted him, and now this was a complete 180 to those sentiments. It struck such deep chords in him.
Jan. 21st, 2010 12:59 am (UTC)
"I guess today was just a reminder that no one else understands us except us." She frowned, closing her eyes and letting the tears fall against the brunette's hand, tilting her head into it and bringing her own palm up to hold it there. "I need you... I didn't think I did, but I do. And I want you, so badly..."

This was just so fucked up. Claire wasn't sure she wanted Sylar because he was like her or because he had screwed her up so badly from the beginning. "We are so alike, you and I... you said that to me once, a long time ago."
Jan. 21st, 2010 01:19 am (UTC)
"We were then, and are even more, now," he drew her to himself again. Not a passionate embrace, just a comforting one, a little off center to de-emphasize certain physical states. "And you have me, I promise. You had me even when you didn't want me, like you said, wrapped around your finger."

He smiled and kept brushing those tears away, keeping her cheeks bright and dry whenever moisture threatened. "There is no other woman in the world, no other person. Just you. The rest are children."
Jan. 21st, 2010 01:23 am (UTC)
Claire tried not to sob, but it was becoming increasingly harder with each moment. "I'm sorry..." She felt so stupid and childish herself, crying over something so simple. But it wasn't simple. It was Sylar. Sylar had been such a intricate par of her growing up, both as himself and as Nathan... which in itself was creepy as hell, but that was beside the point. Nathan Petrelli was dead, Gabriel Gray was not. Period.

"You must be going crazy with me... I'm so sorry." Claire felt terrible. How could she just tease him like this?
Jan. 21st, 2010 01:28 am (UTC)
He grinned and shook his head a bit. "Hard to go somewhere you already are. Actually, I'm always glad you're here. Even the hard parts are better than the best days just going through the motions in my false lives.

"It's not just boring, it's tedious and stressful living like I never existed as the man I once was. With you I don't just get to admit it, I get to let it out," he pet her hair, trying to soothe her a bit, but also realizing this might just be one of those moments when she just needed to let a bit of the instability out.
Jan. 21st, 2010 01:34 am (UTC)
"You're not the Sylar I remember." Claire said, wrapping her arms around his waist and burying her face in his chest, just breathing in his scent. She took a few deep and healthy breaths before she spoke again. "He was lost and young, stupid really. Looking for himself in anyplace he could... You're not like that now."

Sylar as he was now was far more collected than the young monster the blond recalled. He was put together and had plans, unlike the younger version who flew by the seat of his pants most of the time.

"I know that you were violent with Shenoy, but that was reasonable. You aren't like that anymore..." At least, not that he had shown Claire. The only moment that she had even remotely seen a sliver of Sylar's old self was in the beginning when he just let her collapse on the floor in her own misery.
Jan. 21st, 2010 02:00 am (UTC)
"I actually regret the way I handled Shenoy, to some degree. I was coming down off a fresh betrayal of a magnitude I haven't dealt with since the time before the war, so slaughter ensued.

"Honestly I think I'd have walked out of there with only the staff handling me dead, if I hadn't seen you. It touched old thoughts and feelings and for a while I think I forgot what decades of living have taught me," he pet her face gently. "But you're mine, as much as I'm yours, if in different ways. They had to pay for that."

He sighed softly. "If I had it over to do again I'd have spent more time destroying the building and the equipment itself, taking out key people involved in the handling of regenerators, but there were people who didn't need to die. File clerks and nurses and God knows who just happened to cross my path.

"There aren't any more abilities, I'm not going to gain anything by ruling the world," he shook his head. "And anyone else I felt I had to prove anything to is long gone. I'm still not perfectly normal, but there's no more catharsis left in destruction."
Jan. 21st, 2010 02:17 am (UTC)
After a few more breaths, Claire able to calm herself. She pulled away from the brunette and let out a long sigh.

"I feel gross." She commented, but then immediately looked up at Sylar with a look of panic. "Not because of that!" She quickly amended. "That was nice... well, it was hot." She gave a small bashful smile. "I'm sorry... I think I'm going to take a shower. Get myself back together."

She turned away and moved to pick up her bags, looking at Sylar before heading to the bedroom. "Thank you for understanding." And disappeared. The girl was so confused and really wasn't sure how she was going to pick up her own mess, but she thought that the hot steam would help.
Jan. 21st, 2010 02:27 am (UTC)
The brunette laughed a bit at her panic, but had, this time, not taken it the wrong way. He figured she just meant she felt stuffy-headed from getting worked up and teary eyed, puffy and red.

Still, she stole the bathroom before him and that caused a bit of concern. He flopped himself down on the couch while she was gone, just trying to calm himself. He worked it out after a while. He just had to steer his thoughts in more serious, emotional directions and away from the delicious feeling of her firm body sandwiched between him and the wall...
Jan. 21st, 2010 02:30 am (UTC)
Her shower was quick, washing her face and her hair, enjoying the feeling of the hot water against her flushed skin. Coming out she felt infinitely better. She was wrapped in a nice fluffy towel and in search of a pair of pajamas when the desire to go out and vent struck her. She wanted to be anonymous for a while.

"Um, hey!" Claire poked her head out of the bedroom, hair still wet, towel still on. "Do you dance?"
Jan. 21st, 2010 02:53 am (UTC)
"Dance?" he picked his head up off the sofa, confused by the sudden and seemingly nonsequitorial question. "What kind of dancing?"

What was she on about? His confusion was written on his features as he remained belly down on the couch cushions.
Jan. 21st, 2010 02:56 am (UTC)
"You know? Dancing." Claire stepped out of the bedroom and walked forward as she spoke. She held her towel as she came to speak to him, sitting on the arm of the sofa and crossing her legs. "I just want to go out and do something and I though a good way to work off some of the tension of todays... um... stuff, we could go out to a club, have a few drinks and dance. What do you think?"
Jan. 21st, 2010 03:40 am (UTC)
"I... could definitely use a chance to work off some tension," he agreed as he tried not to just out-and-out oogle her long, moist legs stretched out in front of him. It wasn't helping any with the southerly situation that was still a mild throb between his legs. "I don't usually go to dance clubs, but that's more for not having a lot of friends than any aversion to them."
Jan. 21st, 2010 03:44 am (UTC)
"Okay. Then why don't we get all dolled up and go to a hot Manhattan club? Be all young and pretty like we are." She smiled, happy to see he was up for it. "I bought an adorable dress I can wear tonight."

It would be a chance for Sylar and Claire to go out at night and be the beautiful twenty-somethings that they were stuck being.
Jan. 21st, 2010 03:50 am (UTC)
"Sounds like fun," the brunette smiled, all too happy to do anything with Claire, especially if it involved being seen with her. "I'll go get dressed."

He might have made a slightly exaggeratedly stiff motion of getting up, teasing her a little bit about how she was teasing him with her almost-there-but-not-quite availability, grinning cheekily and heading off to get himself cleaned up. He had a lot of clothing he could look very good in and laid out a slim-fitting casual suit that was definitely more sleek GQ fashion than it was going to the office.
Jan. 21st, 2010 03:56 am (UTC)
Of course, Claire was left sitting there in just a towel. She frowned as he beat her to the bedroom and decided to herself that it didn't really matter what he saw. She followed him in and pulled the dress she would wear from the bag next to the bed, dropping the towel moments before vanishing into the bathroom, giving the brunette a flash of cream skin without every revealing anything.

He'd already seen her at her most vulnerable, but he hadn't seen her at her most beautiful, full figured and radiant. Perhaps she was a bit of a tease.
Jan. 21st, 2010 04:13 am (UTC)
She was definitely a tease! And his eyes went wide at that brief flash, not expecting it and not knowing what the hell to do with it! He just stood there for a moment, holding the slacks over one arm and the jacket on the hanger, glad he was incapable of aneurysms. He very very well may have suffered one just then!

He shook it off, literally, then moved to dress while Claire finished getting ready. The great thing about being a guy was that his grooming wasn't quite so intensive. He was able to suit up, smooth out and ruffle the right parts of his hair, and double check his subtle stubble, all before the bedroom's full length mirror, hung on the back of the bathroom door.
Jan. 21st, 2010 04:32 am (UTC)
Claire was in that bathroom for a long while. She wanted to make sure she looked perfect. Her hair was blown out and curled, making sure that it hung delicately around her shoulders. Her make-up was clean and fresh, pinks and roses except for her eyes. Her shadow was a dark smoke that spoke of the hidden vixen within the kitten.

Her dress was all white, cleaning neatly to her curvy frame from the bust upward, the collar came up and tied choker-like around her neck, leaving her shoulders completely bare and her bust held aloft, revealing stunning cleavage. The rest of the dress was snug against her tummy before flaring out at the thigh.

The dress was certainly short, letting the blond show off those gorgeous full and long legs. When she stepped out of the bathroom, she moved to pull out and put on the shoes that she'd bought, a high wedged heel with ballet ties, completely consumed with what she was doing to notice the brunette right away.
Jan. 21st, 2010 04:53 am (UTC)
Now she looked like an angel. And for once, he didn't look like a complete demon. He was dressed in gray with a subtle shine to the fabric. Not quite 1990's "Night at the Roxbury", just a gunmetal gloss that made it appropriate for the club scene. They would be a classy pair, and he was very proud to be an appropriate escort for such a beautiful woman.

"Wow..." he breathed as she stood straight. "You look beautiful. Tash must have tried everything to talk you out of that dress..."
Jan. 21st, 2010 04:56 am (UTC)
"Don't you know it." Claire smiled, stepping forward to pull and straighten Sylar's tie, the thing being just a smidge off center. "Maybe we should ask if she wants to come out with us?" She grinned, running her hands down the brunette's chest to smooth it over his torso.

"Because I would love to watch her drool over how handsome you are while you do everything you can to talk me out of this dress..." She winked playfully, loving the double speak.
Jan. 21st, 2010 05:11 am (UTC)
"Oh, you are spending far too much time with me, because you are turning evil," Sylar told her, sliding an arm around her waist and pulling her into a quick turn. "But I don't think bringing the source of tension along for the ride would really do much to help release it... As appealing as the idea of having two beautiful women fighting over me might be."
Jan. 21st, 2010 05:14 am (UTC)
"I'd win." Claire said with a firm tone, giving Sylar a very dark and sex-kitten-like glare. "Because I know what you want, she would just poke around until something happened." She grinned devilishly, one hand on his forearm and the other sliding up his chest to play with his collar. "I know how to get the dark bit just as happy as the light ones."
Jan. 21st, 2010 07:54 am (UTC)
She sent shivers down his spine when she spoke like that, promising to let him have tastes of things long buried and forbidden. She was right, he was no longer the loose and loaded gun that he had been, but that didn't change his basic nature.

He'd been born in blood, traumatized at a tender age by a cold and violent act that had forever reshaped his world. Even if one slayed the Jabberwock, there was still darkness and confusion lurking in his private Wonderland.

"I'm not going to be very good at dancing if you keep making even walking difficult, Miss Bennet," he warned with a playful, seductive shadow to the tone.
Jan. 21st, 2010 08:00 am (UTC)
"Then maybe I'll just have to go without you, hmm?" She suggested, her eyebrows raised though her voice remained sultry. "Go out and toy with the playboys of New York City. I'll bet I'll find someone who'll want to take me home to... release some tension." She grinned. Claire was very much liking this game. She could be a naughty little girl and she knew that Sylar enjoyed it.
