The Sixth Extinction

Character(s): Gabriel "Sylar" Gray and Claire Bennet
Summary: Building 26 is never shut down. No one convinces the president that it's best to just drop the matter of evolved humans, and Danko is given cart blanche to deal with the super-powered threat as he sees fit. In the next century the Evolved are hunted to the brink of extinction, either out-right exterminated, or imprisoned and exploited for their ability. The number of specials used in this way grows fewer and fewer as time and mishaps progress, but one type is still coveted above all. Exterminating a regenerator is exceedingly difficult, anyway...
Status: In progress/PRIVATE

"I nev... I mean..." The frown on Claire's deepened and she looked away. "I'm sorry they didn't last." Honestly, she didn't want to talk about this anymore.

He shrugged one shoulder and lifted his soda to sip. "I never thought I'd love once, let alone more, nor as long as I had them. It was good," he smiled more genuinely, thinking more on the brighter side of hose experiences now. "And they'll always have some one who remembers them."
Dec. 21st, 2009 05:28 am (UTC)
"Yeah. They will." Claire nodded, feeling somewhat bummed out now. She looked up at Sylar and then her eyes fell, deciding that she would rather eat her burger than discuss why she hadn't fallen in love with anyone in forever, how she could never connect with anyone...
Dec. 21st, 2009 05:34 am (UTC)
He hadn't mean to depress her. Somehow he had a talent for being a little black raincloud, but he did his best to shake it, tucking in to eat, too. He thought on those girls as he did. Every one was still alive now, various ages, probably, anyway. Sometimes he thought about going and seeing them again, on one guise or another, but he had yet to give in to that impulse. It risked too much pain.

The girl didn't blame Sylar for the cloud now hovering over her head. It was something that eventually came around to dull her spirit for a bit. Claire was out of commission for a long while, so the rain cloud must have been very lonely and looking forward to ruining her parade.

"I have a rule. It's kind of silly, but it's worked for me so far... until the car accident." Claire said. She could never bring herself to become connected to anyone she met and after a while, usually about seven years, when people started to notice she didn't age at all, she would move away. "I only stay for a little under a decade and then move along, so that people don't notice me."
Dec. 21st, 2009 05:51 am (UTC)
"It's a good rule. I use it too. I start in a place, clean shave, and usually longish hair, and tell them I've just turned twenty-four. Over the years I trim closer and get scruffier. I can last around a decade give or take. I know it's time to move when friends start envying how well I've been aging. Thanks to Shenoy and their skincare advances, that span has been lengthening."
Dec. 21st, 2009 06:51 am (UTC)
"Well, you put a big damper on that for a while. There aren't that many regenerators in custody. I was prime." Claire grinned, happy to get off the topic of love, or lack thereof. "There are probably a lot of very angry people out there."
Dec. 21st, 2009 06:58 am (UTC)
"I'm sure there are. A lot of heart-broken people, too. You'd given some one your liver recently. Maybe an alcoholic schmuck, maybe a kid with some awful disease. Not that the second possibilty makes it right, but they rely too much on us as a crutch. Medicine is suffering for it," he shook his head, disappointed.
Dec. 21st, 2009 07:06 am (UTC)
"Agreed." She nodded and left it at that, not wanting to discuss Shenoy any further. Claire was actually slightly jealous of Sylar when she found out he got to reap havoc on that bastard place. She would have liked to get in a few punches so-to-speak.

With their burgers gone and conversation dwindling, Claire decided that they should shop for the party. They hit up a few stores, but when the blond found a dress she really liked, she actually wouldn't let Sylar see it on her. "It will be a surprise." She laughed as they went on to find something snazzy for him.
Dec. 21st, 2009 07:12 am (UTC)
"You girls and your suprises," Sylar rolled his eyes playfully and followed her lead toward men's wear. "I know jeans aren't going to cut it. Natasha likes everyone looking good." He began browsing the racks of slacks, looking for something well tailored to his long and lean legs.
Dec. 21st, 2009 07:15 am (UTC)
"And do you think a little color this time. It's not a funeral." Claire laughed, pulling at a deep purple button-up. "I think you'd look less... creepy."
Dec. 21st, 2009 08:05 am (UTC)
"oh, come on. It's not as though I wear black make up and razorblade jewelry. I'm just monochrome," he took a few pairs of likely fits. "I could shock everyone and wear tan. It's good for a summer suit, right?" he picked up a camel jacket and held it up to see what she thought of it against his complexion. "Theyve always seemed sort of dull to me though. No edge."
Dec. 21st, 2009 04:13 pm (UTC)
"Yeah, but the tall, dark and handsome thing only goes so far. You need color." Claire laughed, walking up to Sylar and placing her hands on his waist. "Now, what are you? 26, 28? At least a 32 length." She chuckled, looking up at him. "You're so tall." She smiled, her tiny self coming to only half way up his chest.
Dec. 21st, 2009 08:56 pm (UTC)
He blinked down at her, the touch and the proximity. He hadn't expected it, and was suddenly washed in the subtle scent of her clean skin and hair, her light perfume. So very many memories. After a moment he pulled himself from the reverie to answer. "Uhhh, yeah. 28 waist, 34 inseam. ...Used to be terribly hard to fit."
Dec. 21st, 2009 09:17 pm (UTC)
"That's nothin'." Claire smiled, patting the brunette's hips and bouncing off to look for a nice pair of dress pants."Make sure you look for a nice shirt. Maybe something plain and then we can put you in a nice argyle vest or something."

This was incredibly fun for the blond. She didn't think anything of the close proximity to Sylar. She was going to play dress-up with him and that made her terribly excited. She came back with a few pairs of pants. Dark blue jeans, grey plaid fitted pants and a pair of straight-legged black. "Let's try these."
Dec. 21st, 2009 10:00 pm (UTC)
Sylar took the pants with the ones he'd picked up, putting back the tan jacket. It didn't appeal at all, and he really did want to look nice. He began to browse through the shirts, finding a beautiful ice blue that he found appealing, a rich cream, deep crimson, and the plum Claire had suggested. He took the outfits to a fitting room and began pairing them up and trying them out for the blonde.
Dec. 21st, 2009 10:07 pm (UTC)
When Sylar stepped out of the dressing room looking rather dapper, Claire couldn't help the hitch in her chest. He was wearing the deep royal purple colored button-down with the sleek black pants she'd picked out and honestly, she couldn't help the thought that flitted through her head.

Sylar was hot.

And not even the 'Oh, you clean up nice' hot. Really, legitimately hot.

"You... wow... I like that one. You look like a rich businessman." She managed to smiled brightly, hoping that she didn't have a dumb gaping look on her face for long enough for the brunette to notice. "You look good in purple."
Dec. 21st, 2009 10:20 pm (UTC)
"Yeah?" he smiled brightly at the girl, at her obvious surprise and appreciation. He liked the colour pretty well, too. It was dark enough that he still felt at home in it. "Maybe a slim black tie and a tie bar?"
Dec. 21st, 2009 10:24 pm (UTC)
"Yeah... yeah. That sounds good." Grinned the girl, her eyes lingering on the brunette's torso a little longer than they should before she turned and shook her head a little. What the hell was she thinking?!

"I'll meet you over by the shoe department. I need a pair for my new dress." Claire smiled, hoping she didn't sound too flustered and then took off, wanting away from the sharply dressed man for now.
Dec. 21st, 2009 10:44 pm (UTC)
He changed out and stopped to find the accessories he wanted before joinig her at the shoes. He had a nice enough pair at home and browsed the various fancy women's styles while Claire looked. He found shoes sort of fascinating. Humanity came up with the most odd designs for things simply meant to cover the feet.

Claire seemed to have calmed by then, retail therapy doing it's work, and they were off with their purchases in short order, ready to head back and prepare for the evening. When they'd got home Sylar finally thought to mention, "Oh, the whole building thinks my name is Alex, by the way. I haven't mentioned you by any name to anyone yet though."
Dec. 21st, 2009 10:50 pm (UTC)
"Oh." Claire frowned, realizing that she would not be able to use her real name. She shied away from it because, unlike Sylar, it was the only thing that she could change besides her hair and she'd decided long ago that she made a much better blond than she did a brunette. "Well, in that case, I usually go by Sandra. Sandra Gordon."
Dec. 21st, 2009 11:00 pm (UTC)
"Your mothers," Sylar recalled, two women he'd personaly harrassed, one to, as far as he knew, fatal affect. But it was hard to say where fire and a pyrokinetic were concerned. "My last name right now is Grayson."
Dec. 21st, 2009 11:03 pm (UTC)
Claire nodded and then looked up at Sylar with a cocky smirk. "You mean... like DIck Grayson?" She asked, grinning broadly at the cute, but far away reference.
Dec. 21st, 2009 11:11 pm (UTC)
Sylar chuckled and shook his head. "Not exactly, no. All my family are Grays. I was Gabriel Gray, once. It's a slightly dull name though. Grayson lends something to it. Length and elegance perhaps. A sense of lineage," he took the bags to the bedroom to unpack.
Dec. 21st, 2009 11:15 pm (UTC)
"C'mon. I get points for that one, though." Claire grinned and laughed, taking a new pair of pajama pants from the back along with a new t-shirt and prancing off to change.
